In the direction of Gohapin, this tribe of 200 inhabitants is situated in the mountain range 25 Kms inland from Poya village.
The road passes through a splendid area, crossed by a beautiful wide river which you can explore by canoes and kayaks .
Several petroglyphs are worth the detour, accompanied by a guide from the tribe, on request by contacting the Chief Patrick Meureureu-Goin.
It has a modern school and family activity is completed with cattle raising.
This tribe reading centre, for children and adults, is equipped with computers.
Contrary to surrounding tribes and the rest of the Mountain, flora is essentially made of guaiacum forests giving to the place a surprising Mediterranean style.
At the mountains feet lies a river that flows all around the successive tribes. And who knows, you could sometimes meet one of the children who are playing there. And if you are going down the river by canoe, they will probably offer you some fresh local fruits.
Neither it's not unusual, that people invite you to share the traditional "bougna" with them, after what they will suggests you to go in one of the wildest place you have ever seen and where you will certainly decide to camp. So you will find out the extreme pleasure to share a meal by the fireside under a starry sky with local people, a very fresh coconut at the hand.
Simplicity and kindness of Montfaoué people will bring you back at the origin of human relationships, which often find an expression in solemn gesture and touching custom at the arrival and departure time. It is often that singular moment of share that visitors keep in mind on the way of return.
Despite the tribe's retired style of life, they are connected by the Internet at the rest of the world. So that you can share these unforgettable moments "in live" with your relatives.
At least, Monfaoué has also an history : a tribe which, through decades and territory events, has moved to very retired peaks of surrounding mountains. Although we still can find vestiges of these diverse periodes during wonderful pedestrian walkings.
This presentation is just a sketch of all you can find out at Montfaoué ; that's why, as sometimes we say here : " we don't go through Montfaoué, but we go to Montfaoué…".
